Newsflash**Super Churchlady to Grow Super Pumpkin!!**

This is my friend Tan. Being around him is like drinking chamomile tea. He has a calming effect on everyone. It's like he moves with tai chi or something. Tan owns and operates a recording studio and on Sundays he engineers the sound at our church. He and his wife are expecting a baby girl in June. Since his wife is the music director of another church and they have 7 services on Sunday, Tan sometimes eats lunch with us on Sundays. He's a vegan, which makes finding a good restaurant for lunch somewhat challenging.

Tan wants us to grow a giant pumpkin. He says he has the "special" seeds that will grow a 500-plus pound pumpkin and that he will come over and till up our back yard and help us get started. I'm considering it.

Is he crazy...or am I?

Call me crazy but I call myself an optimist and somewhat of a risk taker! Thanks for writing about me Staci! It makes me feel special! A word about the giant pumpkins. They are Atlantic Giant Pumpkins and they are amazing. Ever since I was a little kid, I was inspired to grow giant fruit like you see in miracle grow ads and in magazines. Check these winners out! I want to grow them with my friends!! http://www.pumpkinjim.com/

Tan - you ARE special!! In fact - I'm not sure I know anyone else that is inspired to grow giant fruit and vegetables.

I tilled my garden for the 3rd time yesterday and added 300lbs of organic fertilizer so I hope it does well. I even tested the Ph of the soil and it was about 6.5. The recommended Ph is about 6.8. I am not sure if I should go with what I have or add something to balance it out.
Today I ordered whopper giant strawberries. I haven't had luck with strawberries but I feel lucky this year! Want some Staci?

Hey Tan and SCL, once this huge pumpkin sprouts and ripens, then what? Can you bake it in a pie? Carve it into a Jack-o-Lantern? Is it just decorative? Will you enter it in the state fair?

I had some goofs so I'll start over. I hope to put a smile on everybody's face because it is such great fun! Hopefully make local news and spead the joy to others! We may be able to start a local pumkin growers assiciation! The possibilities are endless, but I think it is a step closer to showing others our connection with nature in a fun fantastic way!

Yes - Tan is so cool. And, talented. I forgot to mention that in the post. Not only is he really good at sound - but he can whip up a music video and take unbelievable photos - and the best part is...his hair. It never gets messy. I'm jealous of his hair, truth be told.

Ha ha!! This comment section makes me laugh real hard.

Hi Tan! (It's Amber)

Can I be part of the pumpkin party? Just tell me when and I'm there.

Hi Amber!! I am glad to have made you laugh and it's is already working. The power of the giant pumpkin is working it's magic putting a smile on people's faces!! I would love it if you would participate in helping me and Staci grow a whopper! We need to get Staci's garden soil prepared! I had a former student's mom get excited about growing a giant pumpkin and I provided her with seeds! You can buy a packet of seed for about $3.45 at Gurneys.com. Lets get this show on the road. I have not planted yet since I want to wait for others to get on board! Let's make planting soon! I can hardly wait any longer!
